Distance Learning
Note: This is not an active program. The resources produced by the program are maintained to share with school districts in Ohio facing challenges in support and management of educational technology.
Distance learning can be defined as a structured educational program that uses one medium or more to deliver instruction to students from an instructor or content provider at a remote location while helping to facilitate equitable access to information and opportunities and dramatically decreasing the associated costs and inconveniences.
The Ohio SchoolNet Telecommunity and the Interactive Video Distance Learning projects help Ohio's schools expand upon the local network infrastructure initially provided by the SchoolNet Wiring and Ohio K-12 Network (formerly ONEnet Ohio) programs. The projects have helped to bring a myriad of resources to Ohio's public school children through voice, video and data. Through the interactive video distance learning projects, students are able to access content-- live and in real-time -- to enhance, enrich or expand current curricular opportunities for students.
Enhancing Education Through Technology Grant (EETT)

Technology Summer Summit (TSS) fostered a community of learners among school technical leaders including technology coordinators, directors and other technical staff. This annual technical professional development event provided attendees access to training and resources that supported their roles and responsibilities in leading, planning and supporting their organization's technology systems.
The TSS is a peer-based technology support conference fostered a networking environment among peers from around the state. Experienced presenters demonstrated successful approaches or lessons learned; told a story of overcoming challenges; provided hands-on examples about techniques or tools; and encouraged interactive discussions among colleagues. The TSS was a tremendous opportunity for school technical staff to build upon or learn new skill sets required for their position.
Technology Training Academy (TTA)
Note: This is not an active program. The resources produced by the program are maintained to share with school districts in Ohio facing challenges in support and management of educational technology.
Technology Training Academy (TTA) workshops provided public K-12 district technology staff the opportunity to participate in highly specialized, advanced technical training in order to acquire the skills necessary to support Ohio's school technology systems. TTA workshops were an excellent opportunity for district technical staff to be trained by manufacturer certified, professional trainers along side of their peers. Courses varied in length and targeted topics were designed to meet diverse technology staff needs. Data on those needs was collected through surveys, evaluations, focus groups and ongoing communication. Courses were taught by nationally recognized, manufacturer certified trainers and are held at the vendor's training facility in Columbus.
The Technology Training Academy workshops, previously scheduled for June 2009 will not be offered as a result of the most recent budget cut by the State of Ohio. eTech Ohio encourages you to utilize the Technical Reference Library and Techcoords Email Distribution List for your professional development and troubleshooting needs.
