Program Overview
The Universal Service Fund for Schools and Libraries, popularly known as the E-Rate Technical Assistance program, helps ensure that eligible schools and libraries have affordable access to modern telecommunications and information services. This federal program provides discounts of 20 to 90 percent on telecommunications and Internet access service costs to eligible elementary and secondary schools.
In the ten years of the E-Rate program's existence, Ohio schools and libraries have received more than $747 million in discounts on their telecommunications and Internet services as well as internal connections equipment.
eTech Ohio has provided planning, support and information to Ohio public schools and districts since the inception of the E-Rate program. In addition, eTech Ohio:
- Serves as the state authority to approve public school Technology Plans, a requirement for receiving E-Rate discounts;
- Maintains the E-Rate Technical Assistance Program website pages and offers technical training and information on a large group or individual school basis; and
- Works with staff at the Schools and Libraries Division of USAC to resolve application discrepancies and speed the approval process for Ohio schools.
