eTech Ohio, Ohio Department of Education (ODE), Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA), Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA), Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators (OAESA), Ohio Principals Leadership Academy (OPLA) and Hamilton County Educational Service Center are collaborating to administer the Ohio Leadership for Integrating Technology (Ohio LIT) project. Funded in part through a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the project provides educational technology leadership training to 2,350 public and non-public school superintendents and principals across the State of Ohio. The goal of the project is to provide superintendents and principals with quality technology leadership training focusing on whole school improvement and systemic change.
Ohio LIT is a researched-based course of six interrelated modules dealing with key areas of planning and action essential for leading and managing technology integration. The course goals are to help participants envision what the effective use of instructional technology will look like in their schools and help them lead their staff to realize this vision. The course is offered in three full-day sessions with interim periods between sessions for individualized and online work. Activities in the Ohio LIT course include: identifying and analyzing data to understand school needs, capacity and readiness for technology integration; designing an improvement plan that uses technology to improve student learning; and building and supporting school capacity to implement the plan and realize the vision.
The grant is part of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's State Challenge Grants for Leadership Development. These grants help provide superintendents and principals in public and private schools with access to quality leadership development focused on systems change and technology integration. Throughout this $120 million initiative, the foundation seeks to reach an estimated 83,000 superintendents and principals in all 50 states.
