Project Overview
Noted as the first state to launch a comprehensive statewide iTunes U site, the State of Ohio has compiled a collection of digital media assets categorized into areas of education, government and community. The *Ohio on iTunes U project allows Ohio to share educational resources, professional development materials, and community resources which have been produced by members of higher education, the K-12 community, and community partners free of charge with unlimited access. Recognizing that technology generates creativity and innovation for 21st century teaching and learning, eTech Ohio is committed to expanding Ohio's digital media collection. Since the project's launch in February 2009, the Ohio on iTunes U site experienced 1.6 million downloads, contains over 3,400 digital resources from 45 content providers, and generates national and worldwide exposure for Ohio contributors.
Goals of Ohio on iTunes U
- Leverage state-supported projects to sustain the production of new digital media for Ohio's learners.
- Provide unlimited, free access to educational and professional development materials, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
- Support alternative modes of content delivery beyond the classroom.
- Provide an asynchronous learning environment.
- Develop a sustainable content production, evaluation, and content delivery system.
- Illustrate the creativity and innovation of Ohio educators.
- Showcase Ohio's educational institutions, instruction content, technology integration, arts and community resources Ohio continues to provide key educational resources from across the state and promotes the value of digital media assets in educational learning environments.
