Using Palms and Blogs to Improve Reading and Writing

Abstract: Because we both believe in the power of using technology, we researched two main questions: 1.) How can we use Palms and Blogs to improve reading and writing of 6th graders in Language Arts? 2.) How can we use Palms and Blogs to increase motivation to read and write? For this study, 47 students were trained on how to use a Palm and portable keyboard and how to write, post, and comment journal entries on Class Blogmeister. We drew three conclusions: the use of the Palms and blogging has increased student motivation to read and write, the use of Palms and blogging has improved the reading and writing of 6th graders in Language Arts, the use of Palms and blogs has lead to an increase in technology related difficulties. Our next step is to continue finding better teaching strategies and lessons that integrate the use of Palms and blogs.
