How can we engage reluctant learners in the science content standards? We believe that all children can learn and that we can improve the performances of reluctant learners by using emerging technologies that the students find interesting and relevant to their lives. We introduced intense use of the internet in day-to-day science activities. We utilized Powerpoint and SmartBoard technologies to communicate new and review information. We transposed this information to Podcast format and uploaded it to iPods that the students used. These methods are effective as indicated by improved performance on tests concurrent with the time spent in participation and test preparation activities. We intend to continue the use of technology in science class and expand our influence to other teachers on our team.
