National Trail used Vernier Probeware and SMART Boardstm to engage students in scientific thinking processes. Our work centered around inquiry based activities utilizing these technologies. A checklist was kept to record student use of specific scientific thinking processes, along with research journals of daily teacher reflections. The results demonstrate an increase in student motivation and class participation when using the SMARTBoard and Probeware. We found that the technologies encouraged a shift in pedagogical practices toward more interactive lessons and discovery-based activities, which not only increased student participation, but also the use of scientific thinking skills and student achievement. We plan to expand upon these activities to incorporate details that correlate better with our individual specialty areas, and learning standards.
