This project focused on motivating struggling readers to read more fluently. The question was: What is the best use of time and technology available to teachers to get below grade level students on grade level? Students worked in the Read Naturally Software several days/week during SSR to practice repeated fluent readings and got immediate feedback and results from the computer program. Data used consisted of student observations, graphs/reports from software, teacher journaling, as well as Star Reading Scores. Students continued to read more fluently week after week. The use of technology was a serious motivator for students to continue work. Student reading improved. The researcher will continue using technology as a motivator in reading achievement for at-risk students.
