Digital Media Devices and their Effect on Literacy in the Primary Grades

Abstract
Students of all ages actively integrate technology throughout their everyday lives. This study was implemented in a low income, urban school. A variety of assessments (DIBELS, running records, classroom assessments) indicated a need for intervention in the area of literacy. A variety of technologies (interactive whiteboards, wireless slates, digital photography and video, iPods) were used as tools to enhance student literacy. Technology can be an effective teaching tool that should be incorporated into our teaching in order to yield positive results in learning.
