Distance learning can be defined as a structured educational program that uses
one medium or more to deliver instruction to students from an
instructor or content provider at a remote location while helping to
facilitate equitable access to information and opportunities and
dramatically decreasing the associated costs and inconveniences.
The Ohio SchoolNet Telecommunity and the Interactive Video
Distance Learning projects help Ohio's schools expand upon the local network
infrastructure initially provided by the SchoolNet Wiring and Ohio K-12 Network (formerly ONEnet Ohio) programs. The projects have helped to bring a myriad of resources to Ohio's public school children through voice, video and data. Through the interactive video distance learning projects, students are able to access content-- live and in real-time -- to enhance, enrich or expand current curricular opportunities for students.
