1. Who is eligible to attend the Ohio LIT course?

Only superintendents and principals of Ohio's public and non-public K-12 schools are eligible to attend the Ohio LIT course. ONLY one administrator per building or district office is eligible. Once a district or building administrator has been served, that district office or school building becomes ineligible

2. When does Ohio LIT Round 11 application period begin and end?

The application for Round 11 begins Monday, November 7, 2005 and ends at 12 am on Friday, December 9, 2005.

3. Can assistant superintendents and assistant principals attend the Ohio LIT course?

Yes. An assistant may be sent in place of the superintendent or principal.

4. Are any other staff members eligible to attend the Ohio LIT course? (For example, technology coordinators, directors, leaders, curriculum supervisors, teachers, etc.)

No. At this time, the Ohio LIT course is only being offered to Ohio superintendents and principals (see questions 1 and 3).

5. I hear the Ohio LIT course is only offered to low-wealth school districts. Is this true?

No. The Ohio LIT course is offered to all Ohio superintendents and principals. Participants will be selected for participation based upon the following criteria:
- All district superintendents and principals in Academic Emergency districts will receive the highest priority for the training
- All remaining public school registrations will be allocated to other district principals on a first come, first served basis.
- A proportionate number of additional registrations, based on number of administrators in the state, will be allocated to non-public schools on a first come, first served basis.

6. How many times will the course meet?

Each round consists of three, non-consecutive days, approximately one month apart.

Courses are held regionally, minimizing the drive time for participants. Applicants will be able to select from a list of Round 11 locations

9. What time will the courses meet?

Session one will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m. The second and third sessions will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m. Coffee and pastries will be available at 9:00 a.m. for session one and at 7:30 a.m. for sessions two and three. Lunch will be provided during each session.

10. Can we use our Ohio SchoolNet Professional Development funds to pay the course participation fee?

11. When will I receive an invoice for the Ohio LIT course participation fee?

Your invoice will be available immediately after you complete the Ohio LIT online application. To access the invoice while you are logged into the application, click on the Participation tab at the top of the application. View and print the invoice.
To access the invoice once you have logged out of Hall Pass follow the directions below:
Go to the eTech Ohio website located at http://www.etech.ohio.gov. Log into Hall Pass. Click on My Applications. Select the Cohort Application, then select the Participation tab. View and print the invoice.

12. I hear that participants will receive a laptop computer. Is this true?

Yes. As an incentive, participants who attend all three days and complete the course requirements will receive a laptop computer* on behalf of their school district.
* Per the terms of the grant, the computer is the property of the participant's school district.

13. If I cannot attend all three days (e.g., two of the three days or two and a half days), will I still receive the laptop?

No. Attendance is one of the requirements for receiving the laptop. Participants must complete the course to receive their laptop. Participants will be asked to complete an agreement stipulating their commitment to attend all three days of training and to complete the course assignments. However, participants who are unable to attend session 2 or session 3 because of an emergency or illness will have an opportunity to attend a makeup session held in Columbus.

14. What type of laptop is it?

The product being provided is a PC Notebook, manufactured by Hewlett-Packard. The model number is HP NX6110. Some features of this unit include a Pentium 1.6 GHz Processor, a 40 GB Hard drive, 1024 MB RAM, 256 HP Drive Key, a DVD/CD-ROM Drive, and a DVD/CDRW fixed drive. A carrying case will also be included.
The particular specifications of the computer incentive issued may vary depending on product availability.

15. To whom does the laptop computer belong?

As per Ohio SchoolNet's agreement with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the laptop will become the property of the school district involved in the program. Therefore, the laptop will be owned by the appropriate school district for its use by the administrator participating in the program.

16. If the administrator personally (personal funds) pays the course participation fee, will the laptop belong to the administrator?

No. As per Ohio SchoolNet's agreement with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the individual participant may not own the laptop, regardless of whether the administrator participating in the training pays for the course participation fee with personal funds. The laptops are fully funded through the grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and participant registration fees are used to offset the costs of delivering the training to participants.

17. Is the Ohio LIT program considered an entitlement?

No. The laptop computers are being purchased through funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (a private organization). Participation in the program and receipt of the laptop computer incentive are not entitlements for Ohio administrators.
