How many teachers from our school can be part of the grant?
One, unless two teachers from a school building jointly apply for a grant in which case a total of two teachers can participate from a school.
Can two teachers from different schools jointly apply for one grant?
No. For joint applications, the teachers need to be from the same school building.
Our school has achieved the designation of Excellent. Can we apply for the grant?
Yes.
If we receive the grant, will be expected to travel for any reason?
Yes. The teachers will be expected to attend the grant orientation at the eTech Ohio Educational Technology Conference in Columbus on February 5, 2008. In addition, districts will be expected to present their findings at the 2009 eTech Ohio Educational Technology Conferences in Columbus. Teachers will also be required to attend several training events on the various dates including but not limited, February 22, April 11, June 17 and August 12, 2008.
If two teachers are applying from a school, do they both have to participate in the technical assistance audio?
Yes, it is important that everyone who applies for the grant understands the expectations and requirements.
If we do not submit a Letter of Intent, can we still apply for the grant?
No. All eligible buildings that plan to respond to this professional development competitive grant RFP must indicate their intention to participate in the grant by completing the online Letter of Intent portion of the grant application. This process requires that the user have an active Hall Pass account. If you need to create a Hall Pass account, you may do so now by visiting http://www.etech.ohio.gov/go/newhallpass. If you already have a Hall Pass account, you may begin the Letter of Intent grant application process by visiting http://www.etech.ohio.gov/go/CompPD08 (available on October 9, 2007). Click Apply and then complete the Letter of Intent portion of the application. Once you have answered all of the questions to your satisfaction, click Submit. If you do not click Submit, your information is not saved and you will need to retype the information. If you choose to close out of the Competitive Grant application and complete the Letter of Intent at a later time, follow these directions to return to the application. Go to http://etech.ohio.gov/go/myapplications. Choose your Competitive Professional Development Grant: ePortfolios application.

The online Letter of Intent must be completed and submitted by 5:00 PM (EDT) on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 (no mail, faxes or emails will be accepted). No incomplete applications will be accepted.

What is the deadline for submitting an application?
The Online Narrative Application is the second requirement of the Competitive Professional Development Grant: ePortfolios. Therefore, an applicant can continue onto the Narrative Application after submitting the Letter of Intent. If you have submitted the Letter of Intent and closed your application, the following directions will allow you to return to the application to complete the Narrative Application at a later time. Go to http://www.etech.ohio.gov/go/myapplications. Choose the Competitive Professional development Grant: ePortfolios from your list of applications. Click View/Submit next to the Narrative Application requirement to continue the application process. Once you have completed the Narrative Application to your satisfaction, check the "Mark survey as completed" checkbox and click Save. If you are not finished, you may save what you have completed by clicking Save and then return at a later time to complete the application.

No paper applications will be accepted. However, the Commitment and Support documentation must be completed and submitted in paper format (in attached Appendix B) and contain original signatures. See the section entitled "Commitment and Support Signatures" below.

Applicants must complete the online narrative application by 5:00 PM (EST) on Thursday, November 29, 2007. All sections of the application must have a response. No incomplete applications will be accepted.

Once we begin the online application, how much time do we have before we are timed out?
The application tool is set to timeout after two hours.
How much space do we have to write our responses?
Each numbered category allows between 2500 and 4000 characters including spaces. Therefore, it is recommended that you take time to compose your responses in a word processing document on your computer and check the character count. When you are satisfied that your answers are complete and ready for submission, open your Competitive Professional Development Grant: ePortfolios application, paste your answers into the appropriate text boxes from the Word document and then Submit.
When will we receive the grant funding?
Districts will receive the first disbursement of the funds upon award of the grants. The second disbursement will be released in August, 2008 and the final disbursement upon completion of the grant requirements in March, 2009.
What happens if we are awarded a grant and one of the teachers in the grant leaves the district/building?
If two teachers had originally applied for the grant and one of them still remained at the school, the grant would continue with that teacher who remains. You would not be able to add a new teacher. If only one teacher had initially applied, no additional funds would be sent to the school
Can grant money be used to pay for a grant writer?
No.
