Overview and Features

Overview
The online Technology Planning Tool (TPT) will assist education organizations with the seamless development of an organization-wide technology plan that not only meets state and federal requirements but also leads to action and results within a proactive and reflective strategic planning framework.

The TPT is divided into an orientation phase and four planning phases that include resources to assist your planning committee to successfully complete an educational technology plan that enhances student learning.

Once completed, a TPT educational technology plan will meet the following goals:

  • Communicate how your organization is using, or plans to use, technology to enhance student learning.
  • Establish a timeline for curriculum alignment to technology academic content standards.
  • Assess and plan for technology integration into the instructional practices supporting the Ohio academic content standards.
  • Establish buy-in for the value that technology brings to local education.
  • Cross the chasm of technology and education.
  • Align with the district's other planning efforts such as the Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP).
  • Guide the district from convening their technology planning team to full implementation.
  • Encourage the district to maintain a current and working technology plan.

Simple Planning Framework

TPT uses a simplified planning framework adapted from Edie Holcomb's Asking the Right Questions

Book Cover - Asking the Right Questions by Edie Holcomb
  • Where are we now?
  • Where do we want to go?
  • How do we plan to get there?
  • How will we know we're getting there?
  • How will we sustain focus and momentum?

Streamlined Responses

TPT streamlines your responses to questions by utilizing pull-downs, checkboxes and radio buttons wherever possible making for less text to write, edit and read.

Encourages Systemic Approach

By addressing self-assessment, goal setting, planning, evaluation, monitoring, buy-in and communication, TPT takes a systemic approach to planning educational technology. (Roll your mouse over a red bubble to see what happens when the system is incomplete.)

Ohio Academic Content Standards

TPT supports the Academic Content Standards and provides tools for you to evaluate your organization's progress toward alignment and integration of the Ohio technology academic content standards.

Tabbed Interface

From the TPT plan home, you now have easy access to the most commonly used features.

Phase/Section Status

See the status of each phase section at a glance. You can also review the entire contents of the phase using the new Review feature.

TPT allows you to complete any section of any phase in any order you like.

Plan Committee User Management via Hall Pass

TPT uses eTech Ohio's Hall Pass system for user management. Hall Pass lets you add users to your plan committee and give them the access they need to view or update your plan.

Hall Pass accounts provide users with benefits beyond access to TPT. With a single sign-on, users can register for trainings, download online certificates, access restricted content and more.

Team Discussion Board With File Upload

TPT offers enhanced group collaboration tools, including the ability to attach documents to discussion board messages. This convenient feature enables you and your team to immediately share and receive input on the development of your educational technology plan.
